Tokyo men’s quarterfinals lined up
With the last six matches of the men’s round of 16 at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic beach volleyball tournament played on Monday at Shiokaze Park, the line-up for Wednesday’s quarterfinals was completed. In the only three-setter of the day, Germany’s Julius Thole and Clemens Wickler mastered a powerful comeback against USA’s Jake Gibb and Tri Bourne to snatch the last remaining vacancy among the best eight.

Most underdogs in history make women's beach volleyball quarterfinals
Looking back, everything, of course, is seen with clarity – predicting the gold medallists of the 2016 Rio Olympics shouldn’t have been all that difficult. Germany’s Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst were the hottest team in the world, having gold at both the Hamburg Major and in Poland, bronze in Gstaad, and gold once more at the Klagenfurt Major, the final event prior to the Olympic Games.

Schoon & Stam leave Tokyo with mixed feelings
About two months ago, Katja Stam and Raisa Schoon had, as they say, about a 5 per cent shot at making it to Tokyo 2020. Then they went on a good run and eventually snatched a last-minute ticket to the Games through Europe’s Continental Cup to make their Olympic debut at an early age.

The last two quarterfinalists of the Tokyo 2020 women’s Olympic beach volleyball tournament emerged on Monday. April Ross and Alix Klineman claimed a spot among the best eight of the competition to challenge Germany’s Laura Ludwig and Margareta Kozuch in the next round. Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes snatched the last remaining vacancy to go against Australia’s Mariafe Artacho Del Solar and Taliqua Clancy for a berth in the semifinals.

Knasas and Stankevicius spoil Slovenian party in Ljubljana
Rok Bracko and Alan Kosenina were just one win away from delighting their home fans at the Pogacar Square on Sunday, but the Slovenians had to settle for silver at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour one-star event in Ljubljana as Lithuanians Audrius Knasas and Patrikas Stankevicius upset the local heroes to take the title.

Cherif & Ahmed, Mol & Sorum push through to Tokyo quarterfinals
Qatar’s Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan and Norway’s Anders Mol and Christian Sorum became the first two teams to advance to the quarterfinals of the Tokyo 2020 men’s Olympic beach volleyball tournament, by winning the first two round-of-16 matches at Shiokaze Park in Sunday.
